Sport taught me business principles; and now, they guide my work.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of my time following a black line up and down a pool, repeatedly.  Little did I know at the time, that the principles, processes, and discipline I was learning would be the foundation to my professional career.

It has been mentioned by a few well-known ‘experts’ that one of the biggest challenges for businesses today in Marketing is a lack of strategy, often followed by this lack of data tracking.

As a young athlete, I learnt the methodology of strategy, tactics, and data tracking by repeating the process year after year.  Only they were called seasonal goals, base training, races, and weekly training reports.

Whilst there are a few variations and you could rightly question the level of compatibility in some cases, the similarity in methodology is strikingly similar.  Many years after repeating this process I find it has been the backbone of how I approach my work today.   My ability to adapt to challenges do the hard work, set goals, trust the process and perform under pressure were instilled in me very early on.  Upon reflection, I am grateful for that black line.

In a Brand/Marketing team, the person in the leadership position must understand the importance of building a strategy that includes SMART goals and tracking progress for long-term success.  The mentioning that a lack of strategy is one of the biggest challenges of businesses in marketing today, is somewhat exciting because it is fixable and teachable.

At SKYJUMPR we chose to help brands, and businesses achieve long-term growth because we love it.  Reach us at hello@skyjumpr.com if you want to explore opportunities for us to work together.

P.S. If you are wondering, I still follow the black line a couple of times a week.  It is a great way to get quality thinking and exercise done simultaneously.
